This is what our living room used to look like: dark, dated, and extremely dirty

My wonderful sweet sister Charissa and I started the transformation of the living room by ripping out the bazillion staples, screws, and nails out of the walls and trim. We also ripped out the urine stained carpet, removed the filthy window treatments and fan. Then we scrubbed the room from top to bottom with disinfectant. Notice the clever way that the fan/light is getting electricity. (classy)

Next we put a fresh coat of paint on the ceiling, walls, and trim. The original 1893 hardwood floors were still under the rug but, unfortunately they are completely ruined and will have to be refinished someday. For now we are covering it with a giant jute rug I found on the side of the road.

I wanted to get the living room fixed up first so we could have at least one room that wasn’t crazy with reno mess and felt like home. This room mostly needed cosmetic work and was a relatively easy fix. Now we can go in here and relax taking a break from the chaos that is the rest of the farm.
