With a new baby on the way the master bedroom has been pushed higher up the priority list. Since Avonlee will be in her bassinet in our room for the first several months of her life, we decided that we better get the master bedroom ready for her arrival.

It didn’t need much work; just painting, organizing, and decorating. The real challenge was disguising how outrageously bumpy the 122 year old plaster walls were. So I decided to use a wall treatment technique that had worked wonders in our bumpy bathroom in Georgia. Watch my three part video tutorial series below to learn a simple and inexpensive solution that I think would work to improve all kinds of wall issues.

Design Template (Video 1)

You can use any shape or design to achieve the same effect. Keep in mind that whatever you use should not compete or clash with the other elements in the space. Take into consideration all the other patterns and textures present such as the bedspread, curtains, pillows, artwork, etc.

Advantages (Video 2)

So to recap: besides being budget friendly, flaw concealing, and easy to execute, this project is great for the fickle decorator. If you get tired of your wall treatment (or the design you chose goes out of style) you can simply paint over it. This is perfect for me because I love the look of wall paper, but hate the labor intensive process involved in applying and removing it. As a girl, I also love to change my mind.

I know you are dying to see the finished master bedroom, but I still have a few tweaks and finishing touches I want to add to the room before the big reveal. In this half bath version of the wall treatment I used a more organic design element on one wall. This made it possible to paint it all by hand without making a template. Either way I never stress  about making each shape perfect. The imperfections add interest and character; something ordinary wallpaper can’t do. Relax and have fun making a statement that camouflages the unsightly!

I hope the video series was helpful. I know I was super cheesy and a bit nervous, but this is the first video tutorial I have ever done. Please forgive all the sniffles, “ums”, and girly gestures. I think my college speech professor would kill me if he saw it, but I felt that I was better able to communicate the process this way.
