I confess that laundry is not something I love to do. It is a simple enough task, but remembering to move the clothes from the washer into the dryer always slips my mind. Folding the clothes seems to always fall to the end of my priority list. Having a pretty laundry room that makes doing laundry an enjoyable experience is my strategy for combatting this problem.

When we bought the farm there was a tiny, disheveled room that looked like this…yuck!

After we cleaned it up it looked like this…

After installing plumbing, appliances, & a lil’ sprucing it looked like this…

Now, after injecting the space with farmhouse style we have a transformed laundry room.

Painting the walls a soothing gray and refinishing the original pine floors really gave the space a warm homey feel. We swapped the chandelier we had gotten for free with a more grownup shaded pendant on clearance for only $35 (we gave the chandelier to my teenage sister for her birthday, so it went to a good home). Furnishing the laundry room with a combination of my paintings, painted furniture, and hand painted signs, I unintentionally turned it into a kind of gallery. {You can checkout our shop to view more of my original art}

We chose to use a small corner of the laundry room as a place for Cami Grace to do her art work. Now I can tackle the piles of unfolded clothes while she works in her coloring books. This will hopefully deter Cami Grace from unfolding the clothes or laying on my finished stacks (her usual practice). Who knows, we may actually get some laundry done for a change!

Of course I still have lots of plans for this space. I hope to someday put a counter top on my washer and dryer for a more purposeful folding area. I think it would be neat to create built-ins that encompass the weird air duct in the far corner. That would also add some much needed storage space. But all of that is stuff that we can add down the road.

Oddly enough, our next plan for the laundry room is to convert part of it into a temporary bedroom for Cami Grace while we continue to renovate the downstairs. That way, Avonlee can move out of our room and into Camdyn’s old nursery. More on that craziness soon…
