If you have been following the journey of our farmhouse restoration, you know what a haven from chaos the living room is for our family. Spring is such a beautiful time of year on our little farm, and bringing that serene quality indoors is essential. Our kitten Cinderella loves to nap while soaking up the warm sunshine that filters into the living room. So without disturbing her beauty sleep, we are going to share a living room tour of our authentic 1893 farmhouse.

The tiny entryway boasts a new/vintage table. I recently snagged this cutie for just $25 at a fun local antique shop. I love its curvy legs and original glass knob, but the top is cracked, so I am covering it temporarily with a scrap of burlap. The pint-sized table is the perfect landing place for car keys or mail. Being the first thing one sees as they enter our farmhouse, it needs to evoke a welcoming vibe and set the mood for the rest or our home. Agnes the Holstein cow is an original spring watercolor that I am selling in my shop. However, until she sells she will grace my entryway with her utterly adorable presence.

Bringing spring indoors through color is my favorite decorating tip for creating an inviting space. The inspiring beauty of God’s creation—the greens, blues, and grays outside my window—are the perfect peaceful palette. Whether you love to sit on the porch and watch the corn grow, or you love to sit on the couch and watch a movie, you will feel refreshed surrounded by these earthy tones.

The seating in the living room is a collection of cast-off gems that we rescued and lovingly brought back to life. Each piece has more character than stability, but I’m okay with that. A storied patina of chippy paint and tons of texture add a true farmhouse style quality. A properly matched living room set will never be in my budget. I have learned to accept that—and love it too!

Vignettes are a great way to display your family photos, collections, and art. They are little groupings that give the eye a pretty place to rest while enjoying a room. I kept everything analogous with my mossy greens, pale blues, warm wood tones, and gray/blacks for contrast. Once again, I took my cues from the spring pastoral views of the farm around me.

Our office, ground zero for all things Bryarton Farm, is tucked in the far corner of the living room. This gives me a central vantage point for my two big jobs; raising my girls and creating art for my Etsy shop. The girls love to play at my feet or join me in creating works of art. Avonlee still takes two naps a day and Camdyn takes one. Nonetheless, I honestly struggle to keep all my balls in the air.

Being intentional about keeping a balance is something I am working on. Mother’s Day was a time to reflect on the blessings God has given me in my sweet children. Having Camdyn’s lil desk squished up close to the farm table where I work allows her to feel a part of the action. Even in her jammies she is “all business” working hard on her chalkboard. Can you spot a mini artist in the making?
